There are total 19 nationalized banks in India excluding State Bank of India. State Bank of India is first and biggest bank of India (and backbone of Indian Banking Industry) but it not technically Nationalised.

What is a Nationalized Bank?
When a bank is owned by Government (State or Central), means government hold majority share in that bank is called Nationalized Bank.

so how SBI is not a Nationalized Bank?
Yet, Government of India is majority stake holder in SBI still State Bank of India (SBI) is technically not a nationalized bank. The State Bank of India act, 1955 gives it a special status.
